Now that i have your attention let me continue. My first two years here i did not like Jon Marker. Not one bit. I have no idea why looking back on it, but it could stem from the fact that i ran against him for vice-presidency back when we were both freshman. This year, however, i was granted the priviledge to get to know one of the most selfless individuals i have met here. My opinion changed almost instantaneously, i challenge you Mr. Editor to do the same. Jon genuinely cares about the students and is constantly advocating for us. I read all the time in the Daily Free Press how the student union doesn’t work and how we as an assembly aren’t doing anything for the students. On some level I do agree with you in that we haven’t been able to accomplish everything that we are working on, but still we are trying. The real reason the union doesn’t work is that Mr. Editor, I don’t believe I have seen you at a union meeting this year. In all fairness, i never attended a student government meeting until i was elected this year. All of the assemblyman and woman here hold office hours, but i can honestly say that students really don’t come to voice their concerns. For the union to work in the way you ask is demanding a lot from us, which we try to deliver, but you have to remember that less than .5% of Boston University students attend our meetings. It might be an entirely different story if there were lines to get into Tsai or Morse Auditoriums, but there isn’t. If you want to just sit back and complain about it in the forum that you run that is perfectly acceptable and it is your right as editor of the fourth largest circulated paper in Boston. Talk is just that talk. I challenge you Mr. Editor and you the student body to have the initiative to take action. Come to a meeting, join a committee, post on our forums, email your representative, just don’t sit their idle. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.
