I have to say, this Beanpot series was my first time watching the Boston University men’s hockey team play, and what a way to get hooked. I’ve been working at Agganis Arena since it opened last January, and I have come to understand and appreciate the fans of BU. The chants, the jerseys and the spirit of a school-wide team are just amazing. Monday night, BU fans showed why they have become such a popular group in college hockey. Even when the Terriers were down 1-0, they still cheered their team. At the other end, fans of Boston College, who call themselves “Superfans,” could not cheer their team once the Terriers tied the score.
I have come to see that the spirit of BU hockey brings out the best in people. I mean, this game, compared to last week’s game against Harvard, was just … I guess you can fill that in yourself. I know at times the chants can get a little — How can I say this? — mean, but I’d take our Dog Pound over BC’s Superfans any day. This win against BC and the momentum we have been gaining up to this point are truly a tribute to the team of young guys who know the tradition of this university. I want to say thank you to the fans of Boston University for showing me how to believe in a team, and to the players who make that belief come true. Don’t call it a comeback!
