Thanks From Sigma Kappa

On behalf of the sisters of Sigma Kappa Sorority, I would like to extend a huge thank you to the Boston University community for its overwhelming support of our recent philanthropy projects. In addition to raising over $140 for the Alzheimer’s Association, our “Wanna Get Lucky” carnation sale promoted Emergency Contraception Awareness Month through the distribution of free condoms and literature from Planned Parenthood.

Furthermore, we were amazed at the outpouring of generosity from BU students during our toiletry drive. Traveling door to door in the dorms to collect the items was a time-consuming task, but the effort was well worth the result! Anyone who asserts that today’s college students are apathetic when it comes to helping those in need is welcome to look at the large pile of toothbrushes, soap and hair-care products we will be sending to the Maine Sea Coast Mission. While many students donated travel-sized items, an equal number offered large containers of shampoo or toothpaste and said they would simply buy more at the drugstore the next day.

Before closing, I would also like to acknowledge Sigma Kappa’s philanthropy chairperson, Tanya Santiago, for her dedication. Thank you again Boston University and keep up the good work!
