To The Editor:
I am no longer a student at Boston University. I transferred reluctantly, for I loved my time in Boston. When I received an email on that July afternoon from the DFP saying that President Westling had resigned, I breathed a sigh of relief. I was getting out.
Over the past few weeks I have spoken to friends who are still students at BU and I must say that I am so glad to be a student at another institution. Just reading about what interim-President Silber is doing makes me sick. His latest escapade only reaffirms my decision to leave Boston.
I am a fan of the adage “You get what you pay for.” My question is: are BU students getting what they pay for? Mr. Silber has, in a matter of three weeks, managed to alienate himself from almost all BU students. He has alienated the female population. He has alienated faculty members. He has alienated the Academy students. He has alienated anyone who believes in equal rights. All the while he is crying poor over the Student Village building project. He has pushed for larger classes and getting rid of faculty who offer valuable knowledge and experience: he has criticized the women at Boston University and those students who push for acceptance and tolerance.
Do not misinterpret my words; I am not saying that everyone should transfer out of BU. I am saying that BU students should look at where their $36,000 is going. Is it going entirely to their education?
To conclude, I would just like to let John Silber know that my $36,000 is going to another university, and boy and I glad about that!
