Swedish rockers Blindside, are ready to explode onto the American music scene with their scorching third release, Silence. P.O.D’s studio wizard, Howard Benson, abides by the unrestrained emotion and power that underscored Blindside’s previous two indie efforts.
Despite its title, Silence has the sonic supremacy of a thunderstorm. Singer Christian Lindskog ignites the album when he unleashes the first of many ferocious screams on the intro track, “Caught a Glimpse.” The verses combine Lindskog’s convulsing phrasings with monstrously heavy guitar; the chorus couples shimmering vocal harmonies with a haunting guitar riff. The punk-metal rager, “Time Will Change Your Heart,” exemplifies the emotionally charged aggressiveness of the album.
On the closing track, Silence, a mellow acoustic finale tempers the album’s overall energy. Raw earnestness underlies every line Lindskog fires off — the emotion he invests in each song is undeniable. Listeners looking for refreshingly honest music with a skull-crushing edge should add Silence to their collection.
