n In the Student Union candidate debate last night, Adil Yunis chose to spend his opportunity to question another candidate by viciously attacking the “integrity” of fellow presidential candidate Sunil Murti. The reason for the attack, according to Yunis, was that Murti claimed during his candidate meeting with The Daily Free Press this past Monday to have attended more Union meetings than he actually did. Unfortunately for Yunis, The Free Press was moderating the debate and quickly debunked Yunis’s shrill charge, explaining the source of confusion.
What’s worse, I personally explained this issue to Yunis directly before the debate, because I had heard he was upset about it. If he didn’t want to believe me, he could have asked the reporter who actually wrote the story in question (“Pres. hopefuls cite need to change Union,” April 9, p. 1), and who was one of the debate’s moderators, before he publicly questioned Murti’s ethics. He could have, but he didn’t. Maybe it isn’t Murti who has an “integrity” problem.
