I was disappointed to see Brad Jones trash Friendster in his column, ‘A day in the life of an anti-internet-er’ (Nov. 4, pg. 7). While I am certain that there are some people out there who use Friendster for the reasons Mr. Jones mentioned, there are others, like myself, that use Friendster to connect with their old friends from college.
The first time I had an email from one of my friends inviting me to join Friendster, I dismissed the email as something not worth my time. The second time I was invited, by a different friend, I actually went on the site and took a look around. I ended up connecting back up with my old roommate who I had lost contact with and who had moved across country to Los Angeles. I can now keep in touch with people from college, high school and old jobs on a site that is free, unlike sites like classmates.com or reunion.com, where you have to pay to send someone a message. Maybe Mr. Jones will appreciate the site in a few years after he has graduated.
