I would like to express my outrage that militantly anti-gay activist Grand Rabbi Y. A. Korff will be speaking at The New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall at a performance of Gilbert Trout, Members of the Boston Pops and The Boston Lyric Opera.
This event is taking place on June 6th, 2004, called “Legacy of Spirit.”
Korff is expected to provide an “historical perspective” for the event. If this weren’t so tragic, it would be laughable. Korff has turned a blind eye to history by becoming himself what Jews everywhere fear. Rather than learning from history, he has seen fit to repeat it as a willing executioner, gleefully donning jackboots to persecute an unpopular minority.
Korff’s “historical perspective” is narrowly limited to one topic that can be summarized as “My grandfather was really great. That legitimizes me. Let me milk that for all it is worth, since all I have is a bunch of absentee political appointments because Uncle Baruch kissed-up to the anti-semitic Nixon administration.”
Grand Rabbi Ira Korff is a member of The Massachusetts Family Institute. This is a group that classifies homosexuals as suffering from “same-sex attraction disorder” and actively campaigns against civil rights, equality and justice.
Furthermore, Ira Korff personally likens two men marrying to, “marrying man’s best friend, the dog.”
One of Korff’s fellow board members at Mass. Family Institute is also an outspoken supporter of the group Hamas. Call Hamas terrorists or militants or even freedom fighters, but the fact of the matter is they blow-up Israeli civilians.
Ira Korff would rather side with those who kill and maim Jewish babies than to simply leave peaceful people alone to marry the person they love. A Faustian bargain at best, but a betrayal of his fellow Jews and despicable act of treason against Israel at worst.
Dr. Howard A. Spielman, founder of Congregation Etz Chaim– another sponsor of the event– is also one of Korff’s fellow-travelers in the realm of homophobic hate-mongering. Dr. Spielman believes homosexuals should be barred from The Boyscouts because they violate the “standard of ‘public behavior’ for their leaders.”
Grand Rabbi Ira Korff does not represent the Jewish community of Boston. He was not elected, he was not appointed. There is even some question as to whether the title of Grand Rabbi was even legitimately inherited.
For the reclusive Ira Korff to slither out of his crypt to give an “historical perspective” at the ethnically diverse and progressive New England Conservatory, is an insult to history and to the Jewish community, to the students of the Conservatory, and an outrage that I feel must be addressed.
