By the end of October, Boston University men's hockey coach Jack Parker will have at least one more trophy to add to his ever-growing collection.
On Thursday, the 37-year Terrier bench boss was named one of four recipients of the Lester Patrick Trophy for outstanding service to ice hockey in the United States. Joining Parker in the 2010 class are current Boston College coach Jerry York, former Boston Bruins winger and NHL Hall of Famer Cam Neely and current American Hockey League president David Andrews.
Parker ranks third all-time and second among active college hockey coaches in career wins, placing one spot behind York on each list. Parker's 834 victories are the most any coach has ever recorded at one school. He has led BU to national titles in 1978, 1995 and 2009.
Parker and York are the 12th and 13th college coaches to receive the trophy, joining a group that includes former BC coaches John "Snooks" Kelley and Len Ceglarski, former Harvard University coach Bill Cleary, former University of Minnesota coach Herb Brooks and current University of Michigan coach Red Berenson.
The long-time rivals will be honored at a ceremony in Boston in late October. Parker and the Terriers have a chance to collect another trophy before then when they open the 2010-11 season at the Warrior Ice Breaker Tournament in St. Louis on Oct. 8 and 10.
