SEC announces Student Union candidates

The Boston University Student Election Commission posted the names of
the candidates and their respective slates for the upcoming Student
Union election on the SEC website on Monday.

The election, which will determine the Union officers for the next
academic year, is an open ballot, but three specific slates have been
announced including “Rhettvolution,” the “Rhett Offensive” and
“BuildBU.” The three groups have not yet announced their platforms.

The Rhettvolution party includes candidates Demarius Walker for
president, Matthew Kevin Bae for vice president, Gabriel Rivas for
treasurer and Maria Sinatra for secretary.

Rhett Offensive candidates include Pat Moriarty for president, Ally
Rutosky for vice president, Molly Meehan for treasurer and Nick Rango
for secretary.

BuildBU party candidates include Howard Male for president, Alex
Satikos for vice president, Jen DePiero for treasurer and Sophie
Miller for secretary.

The election is organized and run by the SEC, an independently run
student group that administers elections for all BU student and
college governments, including the College of Communication Student
Assembly, College of General Studies Student Government and College of
Arts and Sciences Student Government.

The official campaign period starts on April 11 and goes until April
25. Several events organized by the SEC will occur during this period
of time.

On April 11 from 6 to 9 p.m., the candidates will be available at BU
Central for a meet-and-greet session to talk to students in an
informal capacity. On Thursday, April 14 from 7 to 8 p.m., COM will
host a debate between the candidates for president and vice president
of Union.

“Campaigns are usually a very hectic time, with candidates doing
anything from putting up fliers, giving out handouts and meeting with
student group,” said current Union Executive Vice President Dan Ellis.

Any student in good academic and judicial standing is eligible to
vote. Votes can be cast online through Boston University’s Student
Link. Election results will be announced April 25.
