The following reports were taken from the Boston University Police Department crime logs from Sept. 12 to Sept. 17, 2011.
Laptop Larceny
At 735 Comm. Ave at 12:20 p.m. on Sept. 12, a BU employee reported that his laptop was stolen from his office in Marsh Chapel. The employee was upstairs attending services in the chapel when the suspect entered his office to steal the laptop. Neither the suspect nor the laptop was found. Police suspect that the robber left through the back door.
Unguarded
The Office of Residence Life staff reported to BUPD at 10:50 p.m. on Sept. 12 that an unknown male had entered Warren Towers at 700 Comm. Ave. and distributed survey forms to students. The male suspect had trespassed past the guards to enter the building. When asked by Residence Life staff, the man said he was from the Department of Commerce. He left the building peacefully before police arrived.
What doesn’t belong?
At 193 Bay State Rd. on Sept. 12, police responded to a call at 11:40 p.m. from a male student who reported that someone had broken into his apartment. The student said that when he returned to his room, the window fan was removed from the window and placed on the floor. A few other items were moved around, but nothing was reported missing. Police suspect that the intruder walked in through the front door because there was no sign of forced entry through the window. The suspect was not found.
Speedy spender
A female BU employee at 635 Comm. Ave reported to BUPD on Sept. 15 at 5 p.m. that her wallet had been stolen from her desk. She stepped out of her office for a short period of time and returned to see that the bottom drawer of her desk was opened and her wallet was missing. She notified the bank right away, and the suspect had already attempted to use her credit card at a few locations. The suspect has not been found, and the wallet has not been returned.
Partying too hard
On Sept. 16 at 11 p.m., BUPD responded to a call from the Boston Police Department and assisted them at 42 Gardner St. BPD and BUPD broke up a party where several people were drinking underage. According to BPD, more than 100 people attended the party. BPD summonsed two BU students as minors in possession of alcohol. They also summonsed the two tenants, also BU students, for keepers of a disorderly house. BUPD will write up a report on the four students and send it to judicial affairs.
Baby Got Back
On Sept. 17 in the area of 1186 Comm. Ave in Packard’s Corner, a female student reported that she was a victim of indecent assault and battery at 5:30 a.m. on her way to work. The victim said that the suspect approached her from behind to grab her rear end. The suspect took off running, and the victim did not get a good look at him or her to describe the person to the police. BPD is investigating the incident along with BUPD.
