Valuable Leaders

I’m writing in response to Jeremy Bent’s letter to the editor, “Failing to attract student interest.” Well, you are right about one thing Jeremy: NO ONE CARES. It is for this reason that your president, Zach Coseglia, and student leaders among and independent of the Student Union are so valuable to the BU community. Thanks to them, many issues that most complain about daily without taking action are being addressed.

It is clear to me your experience in addressing problems and organizing events goes no further than replacing the empty role of toilet paper and calling up your friends to watch the scrambled TV you seem to prefer. Trying to change the cable policy is not “false hope.” It is the combined effort of many BU students who have spent countless hours championing such campaigns.

You see, Jeremy, change takes time. This is especially true at BU. In addition to change, research takes time. Time you were obviously not interested in spending while compiling your letter based solely on things you overheard while walking to class. First of all, the BUnited campaign originally had nothing to do with the tragedies of Sept. 11. It was merely a coincidence that a button encouraging unity between diverse students and student groups could have a more powerful meaning. Furthermore, if you have a dictionary, you should look up the word “politician.” Zach fits the description just fine. And finally, Student Union meetings are not composed of weak-willed argumentative dimwits. If this were the case, I would encourage you to obtain a Senate seat. Oh, but then I would have to ignore the fact that you are not the type to stand for something; you would rather target those who do.

Pick a cause, Jeremy, and in the meantime, try to take advantage of the events planned by the Student Union and other groups on campus.
