At their best, colleges and universities should serve as a safe haven for freedom of expression, liberty of thought and diversity of ideas. Research is a key component of this lofty, but worthwhile, goal.

The piece outlined the 1984 killing of 19-year-old Christopher Dignan by a BUPD officer, detailing double-standards extended to University police and noting their routine targeting of minorities on BU’s campus.
Whether we notice it or not, work-study can stratify a campus. Many work-study jobs on Boston University’s campus are service-based, meaning that some students work for, serve or wait on their peers — a physical manifestation of economic disparities that already characterize elite institutions.
Focusing on maximizing efficiency and cutting costs by employing artificial intelligence over real reporters will only harm the news industry in the long run. We must take action to protect both journalists as individuals and journalism as societal necessity.

As we enter a new school year, financial aid difficulties plague students with a slew of anxieties in addition to those that already come with the college experience. Anxiety around paying for school isn’t one that can be easily avoided — particularly not at a university that has raised their tuition by more than $20,000 in the past 10 years.
As social and political unrest continues to pop up on our feeds — including that beyond college campuses — it is vital to continue to follow the news, from both professional and student outlets alike. This allows for continued appreciation of citizen and student journalism, and puts a spotlight on truthful, daring and authentic reportage.
Most of us prefer digital music streaming in the digital age. It’s pocket-sized, convenient, cheap and easily shareable. But now that vinyl is no longer the primary medium for music consumption, it can almost serve as an individual form of art.
