A not-so-little kid in a candy store

By Amanda Brecher October 10, 2023
Working in a candy store, seeing Harriet the not-so-little kid coming in every day, gave me greater hope for my looming adulthood. It’s not an impending doom the way people make it out to be, telling me to cherish my youth and not wish it all away. But I know better than they do that it’s entirely in my control.

A gateway to demons through a party game: Why I find the movie ‘Talk to Me’ fascinating

By Michelle Grullon October 5, 2023
“Light the candle to open the door, blow it out to close it.” This is one of the most important rules in the movie “Talk to Me” where main characters Mia, Jade and Riley, along with other characters close to them, play a new party game involving an embalmed hand and demon summoning which quickly turns deadly.

Experiencing senior year from the sidelines

By Camille Bugayong October 5, 2023

Drink coffee, economically

By Rachel Zhong October 5, 2023
Coffee is not only for my 8 a.m., it’s for everyday classes and even the weekends. I may have pretended to be the lady boss walking down Commonwealth Ave. holding a Starbucks cup, and that’s when I knew coffee was a lifestyle — a quite expensive one.

‘Saw X’ and cutting to the feeling | You Scared Me!

By Josh Rosenthal October 4, 2023
“Saw” is back. An astonishing return to form for the series, “Saw X” being as good as it is should be an anomaly, but this installment is as bold as it is brutal, offering up a grisly collection of traps that aim to shock the sensibilities of even the most hardened horror fan.

The dupe dilemma: how ‘dupe culture’ undermines originality

By Lea Rivel October 3, 2023
More than ever before, it seems like the public is in search of — and favoring — quick and easy replacements for items they don’t have the funds or time to seek. The larger part of this issue connects to the already existing and increasing speed of trend cycles.

Battle of the cinema subscriptions

By Lina Barclay October 3, 2023
If there was one thing “Barbenheimer” taught us, it’s that the best way to watch movies is at a movie theater, surrounded by fellow film enthusiasts and munching on our favorite snack. There’s just one small problem: Movie theater tickets are expensive.
