Genome genius

The Human Genome Project has the potential to help answer some of the deepest questions ever posed about humankind and the universe, College of Engineering professor Charles Delisi told a packed Tsai Performance Center on Monday night. Delisi is known as the 'Father of the Human Genome Project' because of the major role he played in establishing the initiative while working for the Department of Energy in 1985, according to Provost Dennis Berkey, who introduced Delisi.

C Tower smoke sounds alarms

Overcooked food activated the fire alarms at Warren Towers at about 6:10 p.m. Monday, according to a sign posted after the alarms were turned off. Residents of Shields, or 'C,' Tower, and students who were on the fourth floor which includes the building's dining hall were ordered to evacuate after the main alarm went off.

City kicks off fall food drives

Boston's 17th annual Can Share Food Drive and eighth annual CANSTRUCTION, a community service project sponsored by the Society of Design Administration, kicked off on Monday at Boston's Museum of Science. The Can Share Food Drive places drop-off boxes at office buildings throughout downtown Boston and will accept donations for the next three weeks.

Suspects at large in 2 bank hold-ups

The following were taken from the Boston Police Department's District 14 (Allston-Brighton) crime logs for the week of Oct. 13 through Oct. 20. Officers responded to a holdup alarm at Sovereign Bank at 30 Birmingham Parkway around 2:15 p.m. on Oct. 14. A bank teller told police that a white male in his early 20s with short hair and light facial hair, wearing a dark windbreaker, blue jeans and a Red Sox visor, entered the bank and handed her a note demanding money.
