SHANFIELD: Why do we BU?

By Daily Free Press Admin March 4, 2009

This weekend I went to Wesleyan University. It was my first visit to a 'small liberal arts school.' My general conclusions are that the town looked like something between a History Channel movie about Puritans and a Food Network special on the kitschiest breakfast nooks in the Northeast.

SZAFRANSKI: Riddle me this

By Daily Free Press Admin March 4, 2009

Former President George W. Bush is safely out of the White House, and civil libertarians everywhere can breathe a little bit easier. Today, it appears our Constitution, specifically the Bill of Rights, is safer, more secure and stronger.

LETTER: BU ignores change in pot law

By Daily Free Press Admin March 4, 2009

I think it is irresponsible for a school to disregard a changing social environment. It's archaic and close-minded. It's also extremely shortsighted to even consider an 'increase in marijuana use' based upon the passage of Question 2 ('BUPD, ORL disagree on change in BU pot presence,' March 3).

STAFF EDIT: More than a minor problem

By Daily Free Press Admin March 4, 2009

As Boston University students near the midpoint of the spring semester, their thoughts are turning to where they are going to find work this summer, or for seniors, what they are going to do career-wise.

STAFF EDIT: MBTA spending off track

By Daily Free Press Admin March 3, 2009

Whenever there is a snowstorm in Boston, as there was Monday, city of Boston officials urge those who need to get around the city to use public transportation. Even when Mother Nature is not wreaking havoc on the daily commute, the T is the only method of transportation for many students and residents of Boston because owning a car in the city is pointless, and taking taxis gets too expensive.

STAFF EDIT: Politics gets personal

By Daily Free Press Admin March 3, 2009

These days, it's not just your friends that can let you know what they are up to via Twitter. The political world also wants to get in on the action '- and win your vote. Some Boston mayoral candidates, legislators and even President Barack Obama have Twitter accounts, all with thousands of followers.

FORSTER, GLANDER, SAUER: Heartbakers

By Daily Free Press Admin March 3, 2009

Deep within the crevices of your kitchen, next to the pastry blenders and lemon juicers, the avocado slicers and the kiwi peelers, the ice tongs and corncob grips, there dwells another domestic dynamo.

LETTER: Higher education not for all

By Daily Free Press Admin March 3, 2009

I would like to take a closer look at Matt Goyette's so-called 'humble disagreement' with The Daily Free Press. In his letter ('Education would benefit all,' Feb. 26), Goyette 'humbly' claims that The Free Press has shown unacceptable 'disdain for education and self-righteous opinions of low skilled labor.'

STAFF EDIT: No time to slow down

By Daily Free Press Admin March 2, 2009

In January 2007, Harvard University announced that its expansion into the Allston-Brighton neighborhood would be a process that could take up to 50 years, and many Allston residents vehemently protested what they said was a drawn-out invasion of their community. Now, after getting its way to build in Allston, Harvard has decided that it can go ahead and slow construction of its new Allston campus.

STAFF EDIT: GOP vs. Obama: Round 2

By Daily Free Press Admin March 2, 2009

Congressional Republicans may have just narrowly failed to defeat President Barack Obama's $787 billion stimulus package, but now they are more determined than ever to fight Obama on his $3.6 trillion budget proposal. One particular aspect of the budget that has Republicans so upset is Obama's proposal to raise taxes on those making over $250,000 a year.

KAZI: Mindless self improvement

By Daily Free Press Admin March 2, 2009

My pal Jarett Kobek's always saying that I should write more about myself. He's the voice of my cognitive dissonance, like a little red angel in tights.

MOOK: Zipping into the future

By Daily Free Press Admin March 2, 2009

I recently had the pleasure of taking my first trip in a Zipcar, driving out to Western Massachusetts on an impromptu crusade to find some authentic candlepin bowling. It was marvelous.
