I’m sure the majority of BU students have read or at least heard about John Silber’s horrifically condescending letter to the students published in The Daily Free Press. Many students may have also read The Boston Globe’s article that quoted Mr. Silber as saying the student unrest about the Guest Policy is no more than a “tempest in a teapot.” Fine. If Mr. Silber and the administration he represents want to blow off the concerns of the student body, there is nothing we as students can do. Or is there? I propose that until this throwback to the 1950s-era Guest Policy is altered, no alumnus or graduating student donate one dime to Boston University. As long as the administration of Boston University continues to wage its pitiful little war on the vast army of sexual miscreants otherwise known as the student body, its lack of respect for both students and alumni alike becomes ever clearer. Hit them where it hurts. Save your money, spend it on booze; hell, give it to Harvard, at least it respects its students. But whatever you do, don’t give it to BU. This administration may not have a heart, but I know for sure that it has a wallet.
