Fran Larkin, a recent Notre Dame University graduate, has created a new website called InternNation.com to help college students who have summer internships find housing in various cities. Boston University students say the website, which has been up and running for about three weeks, will be an asset in assisting the internship process.
According to the InternNation website, the goal of the site is to help students find roommates for their apartments for the summer, among other things. It also acts as a “social calendar,” allowing students to search for other interns by university, summer program or interests, organize sports teams and find social activities in their locale.
“There is also a groups section and an events section,” Larkin said. “[These sections] allow students to invite other students to events [or] coordinate events with other interns in the area.”
Larkin said the concept for InternNation.com originated from his own experiences in Boston, Milwaukee and Brussels, where he did not have friends and had a difficult time find housing.
“[Students just] want something for three months [out of the year],” he said. “Finding other young students, a furnished apartment and a three-month lease is hard. [My website will] help students sublet their own apartment for the summer and find new summer housing [in their new city].”
Larkin said college career centers are very receptive to his website because it compliments their efforts and helps students get a feel for networking.
“Internnation.com is very secure with your personal information,” he said. “Internnation.com is also completely free for students and career centers, and all housing prices are posted by students.”
College of General Studies freshman Hadas Yanay said she recently discovered the website when a friend told her about it.
“From what I heard from my friend, it is a really helpful site and is helpful for college kids,” she said. “It’s efficient and effective. I’d definitely use it, although at the current moment, I don’t have an internship.”
CGS sophomore Clare Nosowitz said she would consider using the website if she had an internship.
“If I had an internship that didn’t provide me with housing information, then I’d definitely use internnation.com,” she said.
