Boston College star defenseman Brady Smith faces on-campus sexual assault and breaking and entering charges after a weekend incident, the Boston Herald reported Sunday.
Smith, 20, a junior from Finksburg, Md., was issued a summary suspension from the university for the alleged assault, BC spokesman Jack Dunn told the Herald. He said the suspension will remain in effect pending the outcome of court proceedings. Dunn did not respond to multiple messages left yesterday.
Jeff Jagodzinski, the BC Eagles football coach, released a statement saying Smith had been suspended from the team indefinitely, citing an “undisclosed violation of team rules,” the Herald reported.
Those charged with criminal offenses during the weekend are normally arraigned on the first business day of the week, said Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Jake Wark. Smith will likely be arraigned today following the Monday holiday.
