n In response to Mike Anton’s letter Sept. 13, (“Obscenity ban silences, suppresses hockey fans,” Sept. 13, p. 7) sitting quietly in your seat for the first game is not actually going to stick it to the man. It’s going to stick it to the team.
If our team is out there skating their butts off and all they can hear are crickets chirping, then it’s us as students and avid hockey fans that have failed, not the administration. I’ll be the first one to admit that I am a hockey hooligan and have been known to sing “The Song.” I love hockey and I, at times, may become a little boisterous during the games.
Sure, BU hockey is about BU students and our team. But it’s a community thing too, and we should have some respect for that. When this generation of students goes out into the world and starts raising families, they’ll hopefully want to share what BU hockey is all about. But they probably won’t appreciate me demonstrating my extensive vocabulary within earshot of their children.
On another note, Mark Rogoff (“Cursing ban empties arena,” Sept. 13, p. 7) should have picked a different school if the only things he thinks BU has to offer are the BU Pub and hockey. I love both, but come on, there’s more to us than that. Even without using a few of my favorite words, I know that I’ll be shouting my little heart out at the first hockey game and all the ones to follow.
