The following reports were taken from the Allston-Brighton District 14 crime logs from the week of Sept. 9-16.
At 3:30 a.m. Sept. 16, officers patrolling Pratt Street in search of a suspect in an attempted breaking and entering observed a man lurking between two houses.
When one officer asked what the man had been doing, the suspect evaded the question, claiming he was at a party. He then threw a bag behind him on the ground, but soon admitted to officers that the bag contained marijuana.
The officers called for backup after frisking the 22-year-old suspect, who said the drugs were for personal enjoyment. Officers determined the drugs were intended for distribution, however, when 14 smaller bags, each containing marijuana, were discovered within the larger bag.
The suspect was arrested for possession with intent to distribute.
HE FOUGHT THE LAW,
And THE LAW WON
At 1 a.m. Sept. 14, officers responding to calls that reported a loud house party on Gardner Street met several people gathered outside the home. The group told officers they were not residents.
While speaking to the group, one officer noticed a partygoer still clutching an open bottle of Budweiser beer. Though the officer told him he was subject to arrest and should put down the alcohol and leave the area immediately, the suspect refused.
The officer twice more warned the 21-year-old suspect to drop the beer and return home, at which point the suspect simply looked at the officer and took a sip of the beer. Officers arrested him and confiscated a nearly empty bottle of rum from his back pocket.
Not POWDERED SUGAR
Just before 8 p.m. Sept. 12, members of the District 14 Drug Control Unit were conducting an investigation in Allston, in an area where drug arrests have been made in the past. Officers followed a Ford Explorer through the Petco parking lot and observed the driver circling the lot as though he were looking for someone.
After circling the lot a few more times, the suspect left and the officers followed him home. Ten minutes after entering his home, the suspect left and met another car in the area. Officers continued to follow the two cars, observing an exchange between the cars through the passenger-side window of the second vehicle. The two cars drove in separate directions, and the officers stopped the second car at a nearby Dunkin’ Donuts.
Officers seized a large amount of cocaine, three cellphones and about $2,400 in cash. The two suspects were detained and will be charged with drug trafficking.
JUST REPAINTING THE CROSSWALK
An officer patrolling Linden Street at 12:30 a.m. Sept. 3 observed a 19-year-old man sitting in the middle of a crosswalk, using an instrument to deface the white paint used to create the crosswalk. As the officer approached, the suspect fled the scene.
The officer drove around the block, and upon returning to the scene saw the suspect sitting in the initial spot, on the crosswalk. The officer approached the suspect, who admitted to “tagging” the property.
When the officer asked him if he had defaced anything else, the suspect pointed to a Do Not Enter sign at the intersection of Linden Street and Commonwealth Avenue tagged with his moniker, “Storm Is Evil,” in black paint.
The suspect also admitted vandalizing other parts of the city, including his own downtown Boston neighborhood. The suspect’s backpack, which contained numerous writing utensils, was seized. The suspect was allowed to keep some electronic devices found in the bag, including his iPod.
