The Dean of Students Office at Boston University announced in an email Sunday evening that an increased number of COVID-19 testing appointments became available at the only testing facility on campus, 808 Commonwealth Ave.

“The rumor that closing the Agganis test collection site has resulted in a net reduction of available slots for COVID-19 testing is not true,” the email, signed by Judy Platt, executive director of Student Health Services and Kenneth Elmore, associate provost and dean of students, read. 

The Agganis Arena testing center was originally set to close on Sept. 24, raising student concerns on testing availability, many noting the difficulty of scheduling an appointment following the closure of the site at the Kilachand Center for Integrated Life Sciences and Engineering. 

The Agganis location closed instead on Sept. 15, nine days ahead of schedule. 

Platt and Elmore wrote there are enough appointments for all students at 808, even for those who had previously used Agganis. 

“We recommend you schedule your test collection appointment at least 2 days in advance,” they wrote. “Show up for your appointment on time; and, if you have a change in plans, cancel your appointment to free up that time slot for another student.” 

The email added students should limit themselves to only one test per week unless asked to do otherwise to ensure enough appointments remain available. 

“There are plenty of appointments to go around at the 808 Comm site,” Platt and Elmore wrote. “We appreciate you and your cooperation.”
