The following reports were taken from the Boston University Police Department crime logs for the week of Sept. 21 through Sept. 28.
Two laptops a Dell valued at $1,500 and a Gateway valued at $2,200 were stolen from Mugar Memorial Library on Sept. 23. The suspect is a black male, who was wearing a black hat with white trim, a white T-shirt with a dark stripe on the sleeve and jeans, according to surveillance tapes. The two students left their laptops unattended in the library for at least 10 minutes.
In what police believe is an unrelated incident, an Apple laptop worth $1,700 was stolen from a BU office at 745 Commonwealth Ave on Sept. 25. The laptop’s owner left it unattended for at least five minutes.
‘If they didn’t leave their laptops, we wouldn’t have had a theft,’ said BUPD Sgt. Jack St. Hilaire.
ALCOHOL INFRACTIONS
Officers stopped two BU students carrying alcohol at 42 Buswell St. on Sept. 26 and asked them for identification. One was at least 21 years old, but the other was not. The minor was summoned to court for minor in possession of alcohol, and the older student was summoned to court for procuring alcohol for a minor.
On the same day, officers also stopped three BU students carrying alcohol at 735 Commonwealth Ave. and asked for proof of ID. The two underage students were summoned to court for minor in possession of alcohol, and the third student was summoned to court for procuring alcohol for a minor.
MARIJUANA POSSESSION
Officers stopped a group of 12 BU students at 120 Ashford St. on Sept. 27 because they smelled like marijuana. Two of the students received a summons to court for possession of marijuana.
MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS
A car struck a 32-year-old BU student crossing the street on foot near 855 Commonwealth Ave. on Sept. 23. The student went to University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver was determined not at fault.
A BU student on a bicycle was hit by a car at 881 Commonwealth Ave. on Sept. 25. The student was attempting cross the street while a traffic light was red. She was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver who hit the woman was determined not at fault.
SHOPLIFTING
David Paterson, 42, of Boston was arrested at 86 Massachusetts Ave. on Sept. 26 for stealing a sandwich and a can of soda from City Convenience.
DEATH
Ebba Lumbeck, 86, was discovered dead in her apartment at 625 Commonwealth Ave. by her son on Sept. 22. She died of natural causes.
ARREST
On Sept. 24, Nicholas Kimaiyo, 48, of Dorchester, was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Quincy District Court. While trespassing at Case Athletic Center, staff reported Kimaiyo to BUPD, who discovered he had an outstanding warrant.
BIKE THEFTS
Five bicycles have been stolen in the last week from Bay State Road, Commonwealth Avenue and Beacon Street, but none of the thefts have any suspects. St. Hilaire said plain-clothes officers are patrolling campus and paying special attention to bike racks, but they have only received calls after bikes have been stolen.
