Changes to relax parts of the guest policy were made this weekend and will be announced sometime this week, according to Student Union President Ethan Clay.
Clay said last night the particulars of the changes were expected to be announced mid-to-late week. He said guest policy changes did not include the elimination of study extensions or the reduction of hours to sign in guests.
Clay said while he believed the changes made were ‘a step in the right direction,’ there were still issues he said he wanted to discuss with the administration.
‘There are still areas that I think deserve further attention, and I want to get a further explanation of their rationale,’ Clay said last night.
Clay said some of the changes would comply with those requested within the 78-page proposal, but they weren’t in ‘full acceptance.’
‘There were certain areas that were included in our proposal and certain areas that were not included,’ Clay said. ‘There are things the students of BU still deserve.’
Union VP of Public Relations Frances Cosico said she hoped the discussion about and changes to the guest policy would help to show ‘the skeptics out there that the administrators are willing to listen to what students think.’ Cosico said the altering of the policy was a start to the Union’s ultimate goal of achieving the objectives outlined within last year’s proposal.
‘They are all positive changes, and while it still may not be perfect, it is a huge step in the right direction,’ Cosico said. ‘We are very grateful for the administration’s attention.’
Cosico said the changes helped to fulfill ‘one of the greatest promises in our campaign in the spring.’
‘We felt we could get these changes made, and the committee that spearheaded this really did the research,’ Cosico said.
