I write in response to the article on 10/23 entitled: Group compares Homer to Jesus. Please note that in my comments I mean only to educate, not to offend. I must say I was quite suprised by this article, claiming that Jesus of Nazareth, the lord, savior and messiah of the Christian faith, can be compared to a cartoon character who depicts the satire of American society. I read the article over and over, and I have discovered that the only similarities listed were that both Homer Simpson and Jesus were both “always overcoming obstacles”. Has it come to this? Let us turn to a sarcastic tone for a minute. You’re right, the yellow faced, bad husband, neglectful parent, alcoholic, mentally challenged, troublemaker of Springfield, in fact DOES remind me a little of the Christian lord and savior, the son of G-d, the healer of wounds, the deliverer of truth, and love. You’re right they are alike. Homer, like Jesus, is a radical thinker, one with extreme views and new teachings. You’re right, Jesus drank a lot of beer, strangled his son on occassion, and was a very fat and lazy person. Mr. David Hill, your comment “We kind of like the way he lives, he has a simple life…Homer strikes me as a purposeless person. He wants to provide for his family, drink beer and have a good time”, is completely relavent in this argument. Jesus did all those things. Oh no, wait…no he didn’t. Sarcasm over. The Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship wishes to “mix popular culture with Biblical studies”. Well then, let’s continue to do that. Let’s relate the morals of religious society to the satirical nonsense blaring at you through a television. Since the teachings of the Old and New Testament are so confusing, let us dumb down America more by relating to cartoon created to be an idiot. When Jesus died, the Crusaders slaughtered, the Inquisitors tortured , the KKK burned crosses in yards. I can’t wait to see what happens when Homer dies.
