The following reports were taken from the Allston-Brighton District D-14 crime logs from Nov. 11-18.
Just before midnight Nov. 17 officers responded to a call of a fight outside Spike’s Junk Yard Dogs on the corner of Linden Street and Brighton Avenue.
Officers found a man and a woman at the scene who said they were assaulted by a restaurant employee. The two 24-year-old victims said the employee punched the man after he swore at him.
Another employee in the restaurant verified the victims’ story and explained that the argument started after the victims thought the suspect did not sufficiently help them clean up a spilled drink.
The officers entered the restaurant to look for the suspect, but he had gone home for the evening.
A messy arrest
At 7 p.m. Nov. 17 officers responded to a call of vandalism at the Sports Depot restaurant on Commonwealth Avenue.
Officers at the scene learned from an employee the suspect broke a window and ran away. The officers searched the area of Brighton Avenue and Gardner Street and found the man at the White Horse Tavern after the doorman confirmed a description.
A witness told officers the suspect was drinking with three other friends and harassing other patrons. The suspect had shared three pitchers of beer with the other members of his party before vomiting on his table.
Officers positively identified the suspect with the help of the Sports Depot employee and manager. The suspect was arrested for destruction or injury of personal property.
Druggies Lack Discretion
At 4 p.m. Nov. 13 officers witnessed two men sitting in a car on Washington Street looking into their laps. One officer walked past the car and witnessed the passenger sitting with a cotton swab and a scratch-off lottery ticket.
The officer realized cotton swabs are often used by heroin abusers and alerted the other officers, who then approached the suspects and identified themselves.
The driver quickly dropped a dollar bill, an uncapped hypodermic needle and a syringe to the floor of the car. The officer recovered the dollar bill and discovered it contained one pound of tan powder believed to be heroin.
Officers then searched the car and recovered a variety of pills inside a pack of cigarettes. The two suspects were placed under arrest.
Careless Crossing
An officer responded to the intersection of Brighton Avenue and Allston Street where a man had been hit by a car just after 2 a.m. Nov. 17.
Upon arrival, the officer observed the Boston Fire Department treating the victim in the intersection. The officer spoke with a witness who said he was crossing the street when he saw the car hit the pedestrian.
The vehicle’s driver and passenger said they did not see the pedestrian until they hit him after the traffic light turned green. All witnesses said the victim and his friends had crossed without waiting for a “walk” signal.
