The Student Union, the undergraduate government at Boston University, is dedicated to the betterment of your college experience through various avenues of advocacy. Some have called us stagnant. They have said that we don’t want to advocate for students and don’t have what it takes to fight for what students want. This is false.
Apart from successfully advocating for off-campus students’ rights in Brookline and tackling a number of smaller initiatives, we have spent the semester researching larger-scale issues that are important to students. The two most important of these are medical emergency amnesty and environmental conservation. Research and organization are invaluable to us in our ability to advocate for student concerns. It is the only way we can fully advocate your concerns to the administration.
Most importantly, the Student Union has made extensive efforts to reach out to the wider student community and unite student groups. Each of our initiatives this year is a collaborative effort with a different student group. Among other initiatives, we are very proud to be working on environmental concerns with the Environmental Student Organization, the introduction of free bicycle rental system with the Panhellenic Council and tackling sexual assault issues with Every Person Counts.
However, we still want to hear from you. In the new year we will bring written proposals for these and other initiatives before the General Assembly and begin to advocate for them. The proposals will be finalized over the coming break, and we would like to invite you to share your input via email. Your support will be necessary in order for us to have a successful run next semester.
