Farmer’s Horse Coffee: An eclectic cafe

Near the Massachusetts Avenue Station on the Orange Line is Farmer’s Horse Coffee — a quaint cafe with a warm ambiance and a unique, colorful design. The restaurant’s eclectic decor makes customers feel at home the second they walk through the door.

There are many options for comfortable seating and tables, which encourage customers to have a seat to hang out for a while. Despite its limited space, the cafe packs a lot of personality.

Farmer’s Horse Coffee tends to be crowded because of its small size, particularly during busy hours of noon to 3 p.m. While outdoor seating is available, many patrons choose to stay inside during Boston’s colder days.

What distinguishes Farmer’s Horse is its exceptional coffee. The cafe honors the background of Ethiopian owner Kassegn Sirmollo by only serving brew from his home country. To preserve the freshest flavor possible, the cafe roasts its coffee daily at a local roaster.

The cafe offers an extensive range of syrups to personalize your coffee experience. Its seasonal menu embraces many flavors of the season and is full of delectable items. The apple chai, pumpkin chai, pumpkin spice and maple lattes are popular fall drinks on their current and past menus.

The syrup sweetens the natural coffee flavors while balancing the intensity of the Ethiopian roast. The maple latte is worth a try for those who appreciate a harmonious blend of sweetness and rich espresso. The pumpkin chai latte is perfect for those looking for a softer profile without an overpowering coffee flavor.

Their menu includes breakfast sandwiches, chicken and turkey sandwiches, lox bagels, freshly baked croissants, muffins and more. Food options range in price from $2 to $13, making all items relatively affordable. While the food is not very noteworthy, the cuisine is enough to go with your coffee, and it is the blend that truly steals the show.

The assortment of pastries was another delight — the pumpkin muffins and banana bread are delicious. These snacks cost around three dollars and are the ideal accompaniment to your cup of coffee.

Farmer’s Horse Coffee uses a counter service model. Ordering is convenient whether you’re hanging out or on the run as customers can order in person, online or through delivery apps like DoorDash and Uber Eats.

Farmer’s Horse Coffee is also a great place to sit down and get work done. With free Wi-Fi and a printer accessible for a fee, the environment is well-suited for working. The cafe frequently plays pop music, contributing to its overall liveliness. However, the noise level can occasionally rise because of the high volume of customers.

Farmer’s Horse Coffee is open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. For each cup of coffee served, the cafe donates 10 cents to the communities of Ethiopian coffee growers.

Farmer’s Horse Coffee is a nice spot to grab a cup of great coffee and take in the warm ambiance. The pumpkin muffins and maple latte are the highlights. The cafe’s welcoming, eclectic atmosphere and excellent coffee make it well worth a visit.
