Corey Lowe’s basketball career at Boston University is over.
One of the most accomplished players in program history, the senior guard and co-captain has been released from the team, a school official confirmed Monday night.
Coach Patrick Chambers said Lowe, BU’s No. 3 career scorer, “wants to move on to the next chapter of his life.”
Lowe did not play in BU’s 91-89 overtime victory against Morehead State University on Monday at Case Gymnasium, after which Chambers declined to elaborate on Lowe’s situation.
“I’m just going to leave it at that,” Chambers said. “Corey made his decision and we’re OK with it. We still love him and he’s always going to be a part of this family.”
Chambers said Lowe informed him of his plans following BU’s 96-78 win at Oregon State University last Wednesday in the quarterfinal round of the College Basketball Invitational, the program’s first postseason victory in 51 years.
“He wants to move on. Sometimes that happens,” Chambers said.
Lowe, who amassed 1,815 points over 113 collegiate appearances, exits the program as its all-time record holder in 3-pointers (313) and minutes played (3,828). The Newton, Mass., native averaged 24.7 points per game during the America East Tournament earlier this month, leading the Terriers to their first conference final since 2003.
“His legacy will forever be remembered as a great player, one of the greatest to ever come through these doors, Chambers said.
