Four Boston University seniors were charged with vandalizing nine motor vehicles on the morning of May 11, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.
Jonathan Rizzo, Adam Hyatt, Kieran Alling and Anthony Vasile were arrested in Brighton and charged with nine counts of malicious destruction of property. The four students had no prior records and are scheduled to have a pretrial hearing scheduled on July 2.
Boston police were called to the area around 2:30 a.m. after a Brighton resident reported four men had been kicking the side mirrors off cars. Police officers picked up the four men who matched the description given by the caller and arraigned the students before releasing them on their own recognizance.
The recent acts of vandalizing follow a trend which has caused many city and school administrators to become concerned with the conduct of Boston University students. After rowdy celebrations following victories by the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, city officials have become wary of the growing trend of student vandalizing.
City councilor Mike Ross has turned to Boston University to help curb the rise in student vandalizing and many residents have become increasingly upset with the actions of students in nearby neighborhoods.
The caller who reported the recent car vandalizing told police his car had been the victim of past vandalizing and was “sick of this type of behavior,” according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
