A week after placing No. 3 in the country in the preseason USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, the Boston University men’s hockey team ranked No. 2 in Monday’s preseason USCHO/CBS College Sports Poll. The Terriers collected 814 points and 17 first-place votes, sticking them just behind the University of Denver (873 and 20).
The University of Michigan (787 and 2), Miami University (782 and 5) and the University of Notre Dame (750 and 2) rounded out the top five. BU will host the Fighting Irish on Oct. 20 in the team’s home opener and follow up with the Wolverines four days later on Alumni Weekend. Additionally, Red Hot Hockey foe Cornell University landed seventh with 561 points.
Five other Hockey East teams find themselves in the top 20 ‘-‘- the University of Massachusetts-Lowell (11th), Boston College (12th), the University of Vermont (14th), the University of New Hampshire (16th) and Northeastern University (20th). Hockey East’s six teams in the top 20 tie it with the Western Collegiate Hockey Association for the most in the country.
The University of Massachusetts-Amherst and the University of Maine both picked up votes as well.
