Less than a year after unloading his fifth album Fishscale, Tony Starks returns with another shipment of potent product. Though the album does not have the polished feel guaranteed on Ghost’s previous releases, More Fish still provides plenty of food for thought, starting with the fiery “Ghost is Back,” set to the beat of Rakim’s classic “Know the Ledge.” Ghost’s finest lyrical work comes over Madlib’s manic arena-rock screams on “Block Rock” and on the MF Doom-produced “Alex (Stolen Script),” a typically unpredictable and fantastic narrative. Ghost also shares the spotlight with protégés Trife and Sun God (his teenage son), but the former seems to have inherited more of his mentor’s sense of wit and delivery, as evidenced by the lyrics of the solo track “Grew Up Hard.” More Fish may simply be another helping of what Fishscale already delivered, but it is still Ghost at his best.
