In reading the article “Five minutes to air?” I too was looking forward to the possible installation of cable on a campus-wide basis. However, as a resident of Danielsen Hall I would suggest that if students are required to contact the cable company on an individual basis we would all be in a great deal of financial trouble because Comcast charges insanely high rates for basic service. The total comes to about $52.00 a month without any premium channels. I am willing to pay this amount due to the fact that I am in only one of two dorms on campus that recieves cable, but there is a larger problem than the exorbitant prices that Comcast charges. I and others in the building have experienced difficulties in receiving monthly bills, resulting in the suspension of cable service and the exponential increase of service charges to over 100 dollars as well as the 30 dollar service charge required to re-install the cable on one bill. If Comcast cannot manage their billing in a relatively small BU community, such as Danielsen Hall, what sorts of problems would there be if they had to bill the entire campus on a room by room basis? I encourage the cable committee and all BU students to oppose the option of Comcast billing on an individual basis if cable is installed campus-wide. In my experience Comcas is out to take advantage of the student community because they are the only choice we have. Hopefully the committee can create a more affordable and efficient way of delivering cable on campus. Now I am going to shut up and watch ESPN.
