n The affirmative action bake sale did what it was intended to do – call attention to a system that discriminates unfairly. I don’t understand what is fair about a system that states that if two equally qualified candidates, one black and one white, apply for a job that the black candidate must be chosen. That’s just as bad as saying the white candidate must be chosen.
Employers should disregard the ethnicity of the candidates and use the same methods they use to decide between equally qualified candidates of the same race.
The College Republicans didn’t state that any racial or ethnic group is superior to another. Why should the Student Activities Office revoke the rights of a campus group (and why should anyone be expelled) simply because they expressed an idea that is unpopular? I would hope that as college students, we would welcome the opportunity for conversation and debate.
