n I would like to comment on Brittany Oat’s article in Friday’s Daily Free Press (“Bush in Kerryland,” pg. 1). If the purpose of this newspaper is to inform the Boston University community and train future journalists for jobs in the real world, maybe you should teach them a little more impartiality.
Now, I consider myself an independent, and haven’t made a decision yet on who to vote for in the next presidential election, but when I see articles like this, it does the exact opposite of what this “impartial journalist” intended it to do. Yes, the article starts with a Bush supporter yelling an alleged expletive to a Kerry supporter. But where is the Bush supporter’s statement as to how he was provoked? He was obviously interviewed, because Ms. Oat had his name and school year. In fact, there was not one dissenting opinion in the entire article to show the Bush supporter’s or the College Republicans’ opinions in the matter.
I recognize the fact that this paper is left-leaning toward the college crowd, but if you’re going to attack the Republicans for propaganda and misleading information, you may want to curtail those activities in your paper and try to use a little more journalistic integrity.
