Northeastern University will play the next two years as a lame duck member of the America East after accepting an offer to join the Colonial Athletic Association.
The May 29 Boston Globe reported that Boston University declined the offer, and the CAA moved to Northeastern as its second choice in the Boston area. In fleeing the America East in 2006, Northeastern will avoid paying a $200,000 exit fee and will become the CAA’s 12th member.
The move will affect all Northeastern sports except men’s and women’s ice hockey, which will stay in Hockey East.
