Welcome the year of the Fire Horse at The China Trade Center in Boston’s Chinatown, where the nonprofit “Chinatown Main Street” will host a pop-up flower market. Along with flowers, vendors will sell decorations, gifts and red envelopes, which are meant to be filled with money to symbolize good luck for the year ahead.
Free Art-Making after dark at the ICA

Admission to the Institute for Contemporary Art in Seaport is free onThursday night, provided you reserve tickets in advance on the museum’s website. The ICA will also host textile art lessons from exhibiting artist Susan Thompson. Thompson’s work is featured among 39 others in “Say it Loud: AAMARP, 1977 to Now,” a celebration of Boston’s African American Master Artists-in-Residence Program. The exhibit includes two of Thompson’s works, both abstract quilts. Like ICA Free Thursdays, Art-Making After Dark is free to enjoy on a first-come, first-serve basis. The next free session is on Mar. 12.

New Orleans will come to Southie at Castle Island Brewing Co. this weekend with live music, festive bites and complimentary masks. R&B band Midnight Motion Music will perform for free from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Attendees can enjoy a variety of treats, from homemade Oreo snacks at Gabby’s Blissful Bites to hearty Muffuletta sandwiches at Bardos.
