The 10 finalists for BU’s New Venture Competition, an annual pitch competition run by Innovate@BU, will present fast-paced pitches to compete for $80,000 to help launch their entrepreneurial ideas. The event will also celebrate the winners of the Student Innovator of the Year Award, the Henry Morgan Community Member Award and more. The event is free to attend and will have food, refreshments and networking opportunities.
Stage Troupe’s spring musical “Once Upon a Mattress”
Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18, 8 p.m., Student Theater at Agganis Arena
Stage Troupe, BU’s oldest extracurricular performing arts group, is presenting their final production of the school year: “Once Upon a Mattress.” The show is a musical spin on the beloved fairytale “The Princess and the Pea,” with the show entirely directed, performed and produced by students. Tickets are $9 for BU students and $12 for community members.
The National Center for Jewish Film’s Annual Film Festival
Thursday, April 16 through Sunday, April 19, Museum of Fine Arts and Coolidge Corner Theatre
The National Center for Jewish Film, which opened in 1976, premieres movies related to Jewish life and shows rare archive films from around the world, with visiting filmmakers and scholars at their annual festival. This year’s films include “The Burning Cross,” a 1947 film anti-Klan film, at the Coolidge Corner Theatre and “The Safe House,” a 2025 French comedy about a nine-year-old boy staying with his grandparents during the 1968 Paris protests, at the Museum of Fine Arts. Tickets range from $12-17.
Record Store Day at Tres Gatos
Saturday, April 18, 9 a.m., Tres Gatos
Tres Gatos, which doubles as a full-service restaurant and a book and music store in Jamaica Plain, will feature hundreds of special and rare releases on the annual Record Store Day. The store will also serve free coffee and pastries from their own pastry chef.
