It’s time to call on the BU administration to adopt the The Survivors' Bill of Rights and remind BU that they have a responsibility to ensure the safety of its students.
Boston University Associate Professor of Philosophy Daniel Star announced the creation of an American Association of University Professors chapter on campus in a tweet Saturday.
The College of Arts and Sciences Student Government hosted a virtual town hall to address sexual assault and harassment concerns at Boston University Tuesday night.
The town hall was a response to the Feb. 7 sexual assault protest organized by Campus Survivors.
Previously, students could receive half of their housing deposit if they canceled their RLA by the end of June. Students must still pay the $600 by Sunday to secure on-campus housing next school year.
The ad hoc committee has stated its intent to report issues with BU’s COVID-19 response to the administration as well as the Senate to find solutions, according to the committee website.
After almost a year of living under pandemic restrictions, experiencing a record drop in employment and witnessing an increase in mental health problems as a result, a minimum wage raise to $15 an hour, or higher, is more crucial now than ever before.
To make an effort against sexual assault and harassment, BU must implement better services, improve its sexual assault hearing process, hold sexual assaultors accountable and, at the very least, lift the ban on pepper sprays.
Overall, the efforts BU has made on GivingTuesday should still be recognized. But, the administration should remember that in order for its fundraising to make a genuine impact, it first and foremost needs to demonstrate transparency and accountability.
After Boston University announced Tuesday the cancellation of next semester’s Spring Recess in addition to an extended winter break, the immediate response to this news, for most, was disappointment.
