The film’s title, “A Complete Unknown,” serves as a guide for how it approaches its subject material. Mangold’s script works to uphold the mythology of Dylan as an unknowable artist — who, from the beginning, was reluctant to be defined by others and by himself.
There’s an element of feminine melancholy within Greta Gerwig’s work. With films primarily featuring female protagonists, Gerwig has a way of perfectly encapsulating the trials, tribulations and celebrations of what it means to identify as a woman.
While director Denis Villeneuve attempts to balance the drama of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” novel with the flair expected of a box office hit, the film’s dialogue and stiff performances leave something to be desired.
Starring Chalamet as the titular Henry V, Edgerton as Shakespeare’s Falstaff and Lily-Rose Depp as Catherine of Valois, “The King” is one of the best films of 2019.
It’s easy to take our entertainment for granted and think all is well as long as big companies stay intact. But these small theaters are the flavor and spice of the industry and we must support them during their time of need.
