So why is it that although our favorite characters on big screens are writers, the profession itself is still undervalued? Maybe it’s because writing doesn’t always look like work. But its impact is everywhere. It shapes the stories we believe and the ways we understand each other. It’s always words that resonate.
As a writer and a three-year therapy pioneer, I know when and how to communicate the right things — but sometimes it’s just so hard. Fears come up, like what if they think I am too much? It is embarrassing to stand up for yourself and make boundaries clear. Although people encourage you to be forthcoming, a vague non-disclosure agreement remains between parties. There seems to be a common notion of a certain cap on the amount of feelings you are allowed to express.
If you care enough, speak up. Don’t hold back because you fear someone might stop liking you. If being real drives someone away, then that connection wasn’t meant to last. People come into our lives for a reason, and sometimes, they leave when their purpose is fulfilled.
The way of surviving life and situationships is that you have to know that you can’t control someone’s thoughts or actions — you can only control your own. Here are just a few tidbits of advice and lessons I’ve learned that have helped me navigate my experiences with situationships.
