Every college at Boston University celebrates its graduating class each May— but for members of Computing and Data Sciences, the class of 2026 is particularly special.
The weekend of May 14, CDS will celebrate the graduation of its first-ever undergraduate class. The cohort first entered the program in 2022, and have helped develop CDS in its formative years since its founding in 2019.

The internet is not a safe place. Harmful subject matter such as nonconsensual records of nudity and, in extreme cases, child sexual abuse material, gets shared across the internet — and even ends up on the AI models trained to flag it.
These models need to be trained on existing sensitive images to recognize new sensitive images, requiring researchers to sift through sensitive material, Boston University assistant professor of Computing and Data Sciences Allison McDonald said. How to handle these data sets and present their findings ethically is an active debate.
Visualizing Energy, an initiative founded by BU Earth and Environment professor Cutler Cleveland, aims to transform complex data sets about energy into engaging stories and accessible visualizations.
With all eyes on her, Marizza Delgado showcased a pageant walk with confident eye contact and powerful body movements. Then, amid cheers, students in the audience stepped ahead one by one, posed and introduced themselves.
The CDS program introduced three new courses this semester, giving students an opportunity to learn about relevant topics in data science, including artificial intelligence and algorithms.

Marshall Van Alstyne, a Questrom School of Business professor of information systems, and his team, received a $550,000 grant from The National Science Foundation to “explore the question of using markets to address misinformation.”
