LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center mounts pride flag atop Howard Thurman Center one day after Gilliam halts pride flag removals

By Elena Pejic April 14, 2026
Boston University’s LGBTQIA+ Student Resource Center put a pride flag on the roof of the Howard Thurman Center April 7, one day after BU President Melissa Gilliam announced a temporary pause in the University’s removal of outward-facing signs and apologized to BU’s LGBTQIA+ community in a campus-wide email.  Katy Collins, director of the LGBTQIA+ center, said prior to the center’s opening in 2024, BU regularly flew pride flags in June to celebrate National Pride Month. Since then, it has also been done in April to correspond with the center’s Pride in April programming.
