Universities may not manufacture burnout deliberately, but they operate comfortably within the ecosystem that produces it. High internship and job placement rates strengthen rankings, successful alumni reinforce prestige and career outcomes drive admissions marketing — especially when university status is directly linked to future career opportunities. While burnout is unfortunate for students, the culture of relentless achievement undeniably sustains institutional status.

Basing our lives on the idea of doing more, being more, gaining more, is turning all of us into people who greet each other with “I’m good, but tired” every single day. Why does every emotion have to come with depletion?

Treating time like something that should be used to maximize profit — both monetarily and career-wise — is not at all how we should be living.
