Bob Weir, the legendary songwriter, guitarist and co-founding member of the Grateful Dead, died earlier this month at 78. An eclectic group of people — not limited to John Mayer and Nancy Pelosi — gathered in San Francisco, Weir’s birthplace, on Saturday to memorialize a music-filled life well led. Mayer played a beautiful rendition of “Ripple,” one of the few songs Weir sang during the Dead’s early years.

Albums are more interesting when listened to as the original release, without the changes and additions following its drop. Records are forever preserved in this form. They exist just as they were created. Finding a record in its original form on a streaming service today feels difficult, as if artists no longer feel the original album will satisfy their fans.

During a recent late-night Wikipedia dive, I was surprised to learn that Charli XCX — fresh off the massive recognition of “Brat” — has not one, not two, not three but seven appearances in films set to be released in the near future. These upcoming projects include fantasy film “100 Nights of Hero” and erotic thriller “I Want Your Sex” from queer icon Gregg Araki. She’ll also appear in “The Gallerist,” which features the likes of Natalie Portman and Jenna Ortega.
