STAFF EDIT: Meeting the quota?

By Daily Free Press Admin September 2, 2009

Students who chose to check their Boston University email accounts during the summer may have noticed a relatively unexpected BU Today update earlier this month. The article, entitled 'Reducing the Paper Trail,' announced the administration's move to upend the traditional computing and printing system at the university and replace it with a more modern yet less accessible configuration.

Editor’s Note

By Daily Free Press Admin September 2, 2009

The Daily Free Press was born on the wings of a revolution. Two campus newspapers came together in May 1970 after Boston University canceled graduation in the aftermath of the Kent State shootings.

ARAFAT: Undergraduate superstar

By Daily Free Press Admin May 5, 2009

Another semester, another year of my late twenties, another Physics course dropped and three others barely passed. Hopefully. And where does it take me? I don't know buddy, I don't know.

REMMERT: Let’s get poptimistic!

By Daily Free Press Admin May 5, 2009

The final column! The coup de gras! The moment when the Eternal Poptimist reveals that he is something of much greater power, a being so sinister that he could destroy the world in a second but doesn't because he loves The Hold Steady too much! My defining moment!

STAFF EDIT: A ‘real’ election wanted

By Daily Free Press Admin April 30, 2009

Though he's been called 'mayor for life' by many, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino is soon going to have to prove to Bostonians once again why he is best equipped to lead this city. Though the odds are against his challengers to unseat the man who has had an ironclad grip on the mayor's seat for nearly 16 years, Boston is long overdue for a competitive mayoral race.

Final Word

By Daily Free Press Admin April 30, 2009

When I tell people what I do here at the Daily Free Press, I don't think they really 'get it,' despite the wide eyes and emphatic nods that tend to characterize the particular breed of student that meanders up and down this stretch of Commonwealth Avenue.

KIRLAND: The whole Glenville thing

By Daily Free Press Admin April 30, 2009

Everyone has his or her own lifestyle. It's a simple fact that has become more and more clear to me as this semester comes to a close. No matter how much Chicagoans and Midwesterners like me want to complain about how the people on the East Coast-and Northeast especially-are colder and more self-centered than people back home, we really shouldn't.

Why Union failed

By Daily Free Press Admin April 30, 2009

There are two types of people in Boston University's Student Union: those who care and those who care about themselves. To those in the first category, know that the following is not directed towards you.

My name is Taylor Aldredge. I am a Student Admissions Representative for the Boston University Admissions Reception Center and a journalism major in the College of Communication.

STAFF EDIT: Hiding the press

By Daily Free Press Admin April 29, 2009

After not being able to get the story straight about why copies of The Daily Free Press that feature stories on the alleged 'Craigslist killer,' suspended second year Boston University School of Medicine Philip Markoff, have not been displayed in the Admissions Reception Center, the truth is finally revealed: this is no isolated incident.

STAFF EDIT: Preventing the swine flu

By Daily Free Press Admin April 29, 2009

President Barack Obama has told Americans not to panic over swine flu, but not panicking doesn't mean sit on your hands and hope that swine flu doesn't get any worse. Thus far, Boston University officials have taken the appropriate measures to protect the BU community at home and abroad.

SHANFIELD: BU is the real deal

By Daily Free Press Admin April 29, 2009

In middle school, we are introduced to the idea of a person being 'fake.' The summer between elementary school and middle school causes some people to mysteriously change '- either grow boobs or obtain a deeper voice '- and thus receive the label of being 'fake.'
