On Saturday night at the Paradise, Australian exports Architecture in Helsinki put on an eclectic show.
The six-member band gave new meaning to multi-tasking as they each switched instruments, from drums to the trombone, on almost every song.
The band, which has gained a steady fan base since appearing on the music circuit in the early 2000s, is only getting better with age. With its new album, Places Like This, Architecture in Helsinki continues to create a new category of music, pursuing sounds as eccentric as ever. This was particularly evident on performances of new tracks “Heart It Races” and “Hold Music.”
Band members Cameron Bird, James Cecil, Gus Franklin, Jamie Mildren, Sam Perry and Kellie Sutherland were sweating within minutes of their hourlong set. Along with the perspiration came even more” energy as they encouraged the crowd to jump and wave their arms during their performances of hits such as “It’5” and “Do the Whirlwind” from their 2005 album In Case We Die.
While Architecture in Helsinki continues its international tour through the end of the year, lead vocalist Bird could not contain his enthusiasm about the successful stop in Boston.
