On Monday, junior Cassidi Hardy, a two-time America East second-team selection, was honored as the America East Pitcher of the Week. Hardy did not allow a single earned run in two starts, pitching complete games in both wins. More importantly, her efforts came in crucial situations for the Terriers and demonstrated leadership expected from a top-of-the-rotation pitcher.’ ‘
Saturday, in the first conference game of the season, Hardy matched zeros with the University at Albany’s Leah McIntosh into the eighth inning. The Terriers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the eighth, after junior Rachel Herbert hit a solo shot over the left-field wall. But as a result of Hardy’s own throwing error, Albany tied the score at 1-1 and the game’s responsibility was thrust into her hands.
With personal atonement transitive to team victory, Hardy bore down and retired the next four batters. April Setterlund’s walk-off homer sealed the victory.
The 123-pitch effort came just five days after Hardy shut out cross-town rival Boston College, 5-0. The shutout was her sixth of the young season.
She struck out 13 batters over the course of both games. On the season, she has 80 ‘-‘- more than twice as much as the rest of the staff combined. Overall, she is 9-3 with a 1.05 ERA.
The University of Hartford’s junior catcher Ann Kyzer won the America East Player of the Week award, and the University of Maryland-Baltimore County’s first baseman Kayla Mason received Rookie of the Week honors. Kyzer hit .545 on the week and is on a six-game hitting streak. Mason had two timely pinch-hits: a run-scoring double and a three-run homer.
Lotito on fire
Senior Shayne Lotito is in the midst of a season-high 10-game hitting streak, and she has reached based safely in the last 14 games. The latter dates back to BU’s March 13 game against East Tennessee State University in the USF Under Armour Showcase.
She is batting .414 on the season ‘-‘- .579 over the past five games.
