“We knew it was going to be a challenge,” said head coach Lauren Morton. “There were some moments when we had great composure. We handled the physicality really well, and then there were some moments that we can definitely learn from.”

For the Terriers (0-1), senior midfielder Avery Jones netted two goals and provided two assists.

The Eagles (2-0) struck first when Eagle attack Mckenna Davis found Clark just 38 seconds into the game, giving Boston College an immediate lead.

Sophomore midfielder Tessa Geddes evened the score for the Terriers at the 13:24 mark, making her BU’s first goal-scorer of the 2025 season.

With the score at two apiece, the Terriers had the opportunity to take the lead after Geddes picked up a ground ball and sprinted down the field, but the effort was to no avail, ending in a turnover to set up another BC chance.

The Eagles found three goals in a minute after the turnover, extending their lead to 5-2 and prompting a timeout by the Terriers with eight minutes left in the first.

Following the timeout, BU was determined to cut into the lead but missed a shot wide of the net. BC added two more goals before the period concluded, ending with a 7-2 advantage.

With work to do, the Terriers did not waste any time, scoring just 46 seconds into the second period when Jones found sophomore attack Izabella Amonte, who cut the Eagles’ lead to four.

However, 38 seconds later, BC attack Molly Driscoll completed a hat trick, extending Boston College’s lead to 8-3. The Terriers responded with a goal from Jones during a man-up situation, bringing the score to 8-4.

The Terriers would only find the back of the net once more in the second frame off a shot from sophomore attack Alex Cutone, while the Eagles continued their onslaught on BU’s goal, recording 19 shots on target after 30 minutes of play, ahead 13-5 at halftime.

“[We needed] to limit some of the eight meters,” Morton said. “We gave up a lot of [them] in that first half, which definitely gave them some easy looks at the cage, and then for us offensively, being able to get that ball moving a little bit quicker and a little bit cleaner overall.”

Despite BU’s efforts at the beginning of the third quarter, the Eagles maintained pressure in their zone, and the Terriers couldn’t find the back of the net a single time in the period.

They did, however, find a bit of grounding in their defense in the third, holding BC to just three goals on six shots during the quarter, their smallest tally of the game.

The Eagles won the draw to start the fourth period. Less than a minute in, Driscoll assisted Clark for another goal, extending their lead to 17-5.

Halfway through the third, Jones scored on a free position to put the Terriers on the board for the last time.

Boston College added four more goals before the final whistle, securing their victory with a score of 21-6 and three players on hat tricks.

“We have a great opportunity that it’s a quick turnaround. We talked about [how] we could put together a little bit of a better showing in four quarters,” Morton said.

The Terriers will look to get on solid footing sooner rather than later with conference play a month away.

“Let’s learn from the things that we adjusted and then turn around tomorrow and be ready for Sacred [Heart] at home,” she said.

The second game of the 2025 season is on Wednesday afternoon at Nickerson Field with opening draw set for 4:30 p.m..
