The No. 10 Boston University women’s hockey team will head down to Rhode Island to take on Providence College on Saturday.
The smallest state in the union has not been the friendliest to the Terriers (2-1-3, 0-0-0 Hockey East) in the past. The sample size is small but the dominance is overwhelming. Three wins, 23 losses and one tie against the Friars (3-3-2, 2-0-0 HE) makes this more than just a conference game.
The Terriers went 0-2-1 last season against their Hockey East foes, the series culminating in a 2-1 Providence victory.
Breaking this vicious cycle of defeat is what the Terriers will be playing for this weekend.
The Terriers may have the prestigious top-10 ranking, but they have yet to play a brutal Hockey East clash, while Providence currently sits atop the standings.
The Friars are led by sophomore Ashley Cottrell with seven points and freshman Jessica Cohen, who has raked in the hardware this fall, collecting the Bauer Rookie of the Week Award twice in this young season.
Manning the cage is sophomore Genevieve Lacasse, who is sporting a 2.11 goals-against average and has all three Friar victories to her name.
Providence is coming off a disappointing all-Ivy League weekend, earning a 2-2 tie against Brown University and a 5-1 loss against Harvard University battling for the coveted Mayor’s Cup.
The Terriers are looking to rebound from their first loss of the season, a 7-2 shellacking at the hands of No. 4 Clarkson University.
